[Route] I would have liked very much to spend a day sight-seeing in Lidzbark-Warmiński as it features a significant castle and the nearby Symsarna river gorge is supposed to be worth a visit. However, since there was no suitable campsite near the city, I didn't feel like spending my first rest day here and decided to continue to Kętrzin. To simplify tonight's search for a campsite, a friend had been kind enough to provide me with a list of sites around Kętrzin.
But first I returned to the centre of Lidzbark-Warmiński for breakfast and some photos of the outside of the castle.
After breakfast outside a supermarket I did a quick inspection of my bike. The sandy forest paths I had taken yesterday around Bieniewo had clogged up my derailleur to the point where the guiding sprocket wouldn't even turn anymore, so some urgent bicycle cleaning was in order. When this was finished, I left Lidzbark on the road towards Bisztynek via Wozławki. Today the weather was beautiful and I got to enjoy the characteristic countryside of this region. Almost all the roads are tree-lined avenues, even more so than in the area around Berlin where I usually go riding.
I also noticed a large number of sometimes elaborate St Mary's roadside chapels at many of the intersections. This weirdly reminded me of Bavaria, the only other place I know so devoted to St Mary.
My lunch stop was at the well-known tourist destination Reszel which sports an impressive bridge, church and castle. On the road from Reszel to Święta Lipka I crossed from the Warmian region into the Masurian region. At Święta Lipka, I took a couple of photos of the amazing Baroque architecture of the sanctuary. Since I am generally more interested in secular rather than sacred architecture, I didn't stop to look inside. I didn't stop to look at Kętrzin because I'm going to spend my rest day here tomorrow. On the way from Kętrzin on to Czerniki I passed this old factory building near Karolewo. I arrived at Agroturystyka Andrzejówka and pitched my tent on their very cosy lawn next to a little lake.
